"Venia de Viaje" - Parent's Consent to Travel for Minors

The "venia de viaje" or travel permit is a permit to travel alone, in the company of a single parent, or in the company of third parties, to and from Argentina, which is required for all minors under 14 years of age of any nationality and all Argentine minors under 18 years of age.

Who can apply for a travel permit? The only persons authorized to grant a permit are the parents of the minor who are in exercise of parental authority or, failing that, the so-called "legal guardian".

What happens when a child has only one parent? The parent in charge must submit to this Representation the minor's birth certificate proving the filiation, as well as the document from which the exclusive parental authority of the authorizing party and/or the death certificate.

Requirements for the processing of a travel visa: both parents must present themselves at the offices of this Consulate General, after an appointment by e-mail or - failing that - by telephone with the consular officer, with the following documentation: original passports of both parents, original passport of the traveling minor(s), birth certificate, marriage certificate and proof of address in Australia (e.g. a utility bill). Please note that all names must match (all first and last names) on the documentation submitted.

According to the will of the parents, the authorization may be broad and authorize their child to travel to all countries of the world until he/she reaches the age of majority, or it may be restricted (until a certain date, for a certain trip, to a certain destination, etc.) and the information of the accompanying person must be stated in case of authorizing the minor to travel accompanied.

The travel authorization may also be executed before a local notary public. For this document to be valid in Argentina, the venia must be drafted in Spanish -or translated into Spanish- as well as apostilled (Apostille Stamp) in one of the offices of the Department and Foreign Affairs (DFAT) mentioned below:
